Flagpole Photographers Announce
First Meeting For The New Year
The Flagpole Photographers Club will begin the new year on Thursday, January 21, with a program that will highlight both club and personal achievement at the Fall New England Camera Club Council competition. The noteworthy awards will highlight the meeting at C.H. Booth Library scheduled to start at 7:30 pm.
Guests are always welcome to Flagpole Photographers Club meetings. The monthly competitions (details below) are open to members only, however.
The club placed first in the Black and White division among the 80 New England clubs and Dr Robert Berthierâs âFrozen Cottonwoodsâ photograph was awarded first place in the individual competition. The photograph was taken at Yellowstone National Park, where Dr Berthier has made many trips. Several of his nature photographs are included in the Dave Kreiger Award permanent display on the third floor of the library.
The Flagpole photographers scored a 93 in the club competition, ten points in front of the second place club, Monadnock Camera Club of Greenfield, N.H. In addition to Dr Berthierâs first place, Rick Tyrseckâs âSailing around Marshall Pointâ won second place and Sheila Silvernailâs âBattle Tentâ placed as an honorable mention.
Additionally, Ms Silvernailâs âBlue Domeâ won an honorable mention in the color division. Also in the color division, the club placed tenth, with only five points separating it from the first place winner, New Haven Camera Club.
Also during the January program, Rick Tyrseck will present a program on digital color management. Mr Tyrseck, a member of the club for the past several years, is a noted expert in the digital field and will illustrate his methods of managing files and color corrections made in software. His photographs have consistently won honors in NECCC competitions, as well as from Candlewood Camera Club in Danbury and the Flagpole Club.
âSelf Portraitâ is the theme for the January competition. Members must have taken their competition photograph, either color or black and white, within the past two years. In addition, members will also compete in an âopenâ color and a âopenâ black and white division. Winners will be chosen by three out of town judges from neighboring camera clubs.
