Alice (Turner) Curtis, 98, died January 9. She was born at home, December 15, 1911, in New Haven to Nellie E. (DeMond) and Carl R. Turner. She was one of six children, predeceased by two.
She married H. Gould Curtis in 1933, and while raising their two children, began a nursery school in their home in the village of Berkshire, Sandy Hook. After Alice and Gould moved to Bethlehem in 1958, she tutored students privately and worked in the Head Start program in Danbury. She was a vibrant participant in numerous town events. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and devoted friend to many. Her talents were numerous.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Paula Levy and Barbara Gioia, and for the entire staff of Duncasterâs assisted living department and medical staff in Bloomfield for their care and support.
She leaves behind her daughter, Bernelle âBunnyâ Curtis Millan and husband, Raymond, of Simsbury; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Sam Curtis.
A memorial celebration of her life will take place Saturday, January 30, at 11 am, at Christ Church, The Green, Bethlehem.
