The Board of Selectmen spent about 30 minutes during its regular meeting, January 7, hearing about all the exciting community and economic development happenings going on around Newtown in 2018.

Christal Preszler, Newtown’s deputy director for economic & community development, and economic & community development and Fairfield Hills coordinator Kimberly Chiappetta provided a comprehensive report to the selectmen that outlined the myriad tasks and responsibilities that fall on that office.

The two town staff members were joined by Economic Development Commissioners Wes Thompson, Cramer Hill Owen, Barbara Snyder, and incoming commissioner Valerie Fallon.

As Ms Preszler explained it, she and Ms Chiappetta, “...promote Newtown in a lot of different ways to a lot of different groups,” through project management, marketing, relationship building, coordinating among various entities and event players, and providing timely follow-up to inquiries about the town and its businesses, services, and opportunities for further development and commercial expansion.
