Veterinarian Dr John Robb connects with every animal that comes under his care heart-to-heart.

The experienced animal care expert is currently celebrating the soft opening of his new Protect The Pets practice at 98 South Main Street and will hold a day-long event on Saturday, January 19.

Dr Robb told The Newtown Bee that the grand opening celebration will include a visit from Bishop Henry Whitmire from the Mountain Church of God in Brookfield, who will bless any attending pets beginning at 10 am, both in groups and individually, if requested.

“We want to thank Abaxis [global provider of veterinary point-of-care diagnostic instruments] for donating their machines and reagents [substance used in chemical analysis] to run CBC/Chem blood work, as well as Idexx Laboratories for donating reagents,” Dr Robb said. “We will not be doing any examinations but will be doing free bloodwork, one CBC/Chem per family — a $150 value.”

There will be a discussion on nutrition as well, and Dr Robb is reaching out to a local pet-related business to consider participating, as well.

The soft-spoken and mild-mannered vet said visitors to his new practice will immediately notice that the office is pretty austere — no racks of pet products or supplies to peruse, and few, if any, branded supplemental medications, items, or signage besides his own.

“That’s because we’re all about people getting nothing but great care for their pets,” he said. “I feel that philosophy in my heart. So you won’t see a lot of products here being sold. This is a hospital that is here for the care of sick animals.”
