Volunteers Sought To Fill

Local Board Vacancies

First Selectman Pat Llodra is asking for residents to consider volunteering for an appointment to one of several openings on local boards and commissions. There is an alternate position and a full position open to any party and a vacant alternate position available to a Republican or unaffiliated voter on the Commission for Aging.

The Commission on Aging studies the needs of elderly and aging persons in Newtown, coordinates programs for the elderly and aging in Newtown, makes applications for grants to state and federal governmental agencies, prepares written opinions on the merits of programs for which grants are proposed and acts as agent for other federal, state, or town boards, commissions or agencies, or local private groups to carry out programs for the elderly and aging in Newtown as from time to time are specifically authorized by such boards, commissions and agencies, and groups.

Also, the Lake Lillinonah Authority has a vacant position for an unaffiliated voter. The Lake Lillinonah Authority comprises three delegates from each town having a portion of Lake Lillinonah within its territorial limits. The authority has all powers granted by the Connecticut General Statutes for lake authorities, including, without limitation, powers relating to the enforcement of boating laws on the Lake.

The Economic Development Commission also has openings available to any party. The Economic Development Commission was formed, by ordinance, for the promotion and development of the economic resources of the town.

The commission consists of nine members who are electors of the town, appointed by the first selectman with the approval of the Board of Selectmen. Interested individuals are invited to view the EDC website at www.newtown.org.

The Hattertown Historic District, Sustainable Energy, and the Building Appeals Board have openings as well. Any interested parties for any of the openings may contact the first selectman’s office at 203-270-4203 for more information, or to tender their willingness to volunteer.
