‘The Carpet Man’

George Holick, 76, of Danbury, beloved husband of Shirley May (Dunlap) Holick, died suddenly, January 10. He was born in Danbury, January 30, 1934, son of Christine (Vanek) and Martin Holick and attended Danbury schools.

In addition to his loving wife of 55 years, Mr Holick is survived by four children, including Steven G. Holick, and his wife Kathy, of Sandy Hook; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three siblings, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War.

Mr Holick worked as a self-employed carpet installer and was well respected in the community, making friends wherever he traveled. Known by everyone as “the carpet man,” over the years he took many people under his wings. A lifetime member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church, he served his church community in many ways, and was a church Cub Scout leader.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Mr Holick was devoted to his family. He also enjoyed his fellowship in the Sokol Lodge and Racearena at the Danbury Fair.

The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, Friday, January 14, between the hours of 4 and 7 pm. Funeral services will take place Saturday, January 15, at 10 am, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Spring Street, Danbury, with Pastor German officiating. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
