Conn. Bill Would Ban Synthetic Marijuana Products

HARTFORD (AP) — Some Connecticut lawmakers want to ban synthetic products that can produce a marijuana-like high.

Several legislators, parents, and advocates for the Connecticut Prevention Network on Monday called on the General Assembly to pass legislation that would ban the sale and possession of synthetic cannabinoids, including products known as K2, Spice, and Liquid Gold.

Representative Patricia Widlitz, a Democrat from Guilford, said the substances are becoming increasingly popular, especially among students and young people. She said the public needs to know such products are dangerous.

The products are a mixture of plant material that has been sprayed with a synthetic compound similar to the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.

Widlitz said 15 states have passed similar legislation.
