Celebrating

The Toastmasters

To the Editor:

It seems like just a short time ago when a few folks had the idea to start a Toastmasters Club in Newtown. When we were planning the logistics of the first demonstration meeting, we had no idea if this would result in a flourishing club or just a nice idea that would fizzle away. The first meeting drew many interested people and a handful returned to be the first members. Over the course of a year, our Toastmasters organization has grown as people have come and gone from the meetings. We have had over a year of first speeches, themed meetings, and even a miniature golf outing. In October, Newtown Toastmasters had grown enough to become a fully recognized, chartered club of Toastmasters International.

Newtown Toastmasters will be celebrating this achievement on Wednesday, January 19. We are thrilled to invite members of the community to participate in this celebratory meeting. Whether or not you have visited a meeting in the past, everyone is welcome in commemorating the building of this Newtown chapter. We will be recognizing our first 20 charter members and those that helped get the organization off the ground. We are certainly looking forward to what the next years will bring. We hope you can join us on Wednesday, January 19, 7:30 to 9:30 pm, at Edmond Town Hall in The Alexandria Room
