Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Penn., named Newtown residents Lauren Kostes, daughter of Nicoletta and Stephen Kostes, and Kristen Tanner, daughter of Dawn and Richard Tanner, to the Dean's List for outstanding academic achievement during the fall
Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Penn., named Newtown residents Lauren Kostes, daughter of Nicoletta and Stephen Kostes, and Kristen Tanner, daughter of Dawn and Richard Tanner, to the Deanâs List for outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2010-2011 academic year. A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive Deanâs List recognition at the university.
Harrison Reiner Gillis, a member of the Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y., Class of 2013, has been inducted into the Colgate chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, the national scholastic honorary society that recognizes the outstanding academic achievement of first-year students. Harrison, an Newtown High School graduate and son of Susan R. Gillis and Kurt C. Gillis of Sandy Hook, received the prestigious distinction for having earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 during the 2009-2010 academic year. A banquet was held in honor of the approximately 150 students who qualified.
Keene State College, Keene, N.H., recently named Holly H. Conrad to its the Deanâs List for the fall semester 2010. To qualify for the Deanâs List, Keene State undergraduates must be enrolled in a degree program and must have completed a minimum of six credit hours in the semester, receiving no failing or incomplete grades. Students must achieve a 3.5 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale to earn Deanâs List honors.
A number of local students were named to the Fall Honor Roll at The Loomis Chafee School in Windsor. Sandy Hook resident Robert Carroll earned High Honor Roll placement, as did Newtowner Shannon Deveney. Sandy Hook residents Francis Afriyie and Valerie Szabo achieved Honor Roll placement, as did Newtowner Jocelyn Toll. The Loomis Chaffee School is an internationally recognized college preparatory school for grades 9 through 12.
Curry College, Milton, Mass., announced recently that Newtown resident Molly Day was placed on the fall 2010 termâs Deanâs List. To qualify, students must earn a 3.30 G.P.A., have no incompletes, and have no grade lower than a âCâ for the semester. Full-time students must carry 12 or more graded credits for the semester; part-time students must be matriculated, carrying 6â11.5 graded credits for the semester, and must have earned a cumulative total of 15 graded credits in consecutive semesters.
