Take A Moonlit Walk At The Bent
Take A Moonlit Walk At The Bent
On Friday evening, January 21, families are invited to explore the Bent of the River Audubon Center by moonlight in the company of Education Director Ellen Turner.
The guided walk will take place from 7 to 8:30 pm and is designed for families with children in elementary school and older. It is scheduled two days before the full moon, so particularly if there is snow on the ground, the night will be wonderfully bright. Participants will tour the Bentâs magical winter landscape and follow trails while listening for the calls of owls and learning about nocturnal animals.
Meet at the kiosk in the entry visitor parking lot. Bring a flashlight for the return hike and dress warmly. Rain or snow will cancel the event.
Reservations are required with a limit at 20 participants accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Fees are $3 for adults, $1.50 for children (members); $5 for adults, and $3 for children (nonmembers).
The Audubon Center grounds are open to the public daily from dawn to dusk. Bent of the River is located on East Flat Hill Road in South Britain about a half mile from Connecticut Route 172 off of I-84 (Exit 14). Access is from East Flat Hill Road, and trail maps are available at the Welcome Kiosk in the Visitors Parking Lot. Call 203-264-5098 for program schedules or other information about the center.
