Police Raid Seizes $36,000 Of Cultivated Marijuana

By Andrew Gorosko

Acting on information developed during a drug investigation, nine police officers raided a Sandy Hook Center residence on the afternoon of January 11 and seized $36,000 worth of marijuana which was being cultivated there, plus plant growth equipment.

It is the largest local drug seizure of its type made in recent memory, according to police.

Police charged Brian Goodrich, 26, of 17-A Washington Avenue with three felonies — illegal cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, and possession of marijuana within 1,500 feet of a school. The residence is within 1,500 feet of Sandy Hook School.

Goodrich posted $10,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on January 25 in Danbury Superior Court.

Executing a search-and-seizure warrant at Goodrich’s residence at 17-A Washington Avenue, nine police, including detectives and patrol officers, plus members of the state police’s statewide narcotics task force raided the home and confiscated 36 marijuana plants, lighting equipment, a lighting timer, plant fertilizer, marijuana that was packaged for sale, plus an unspecified amount of cash.

Police said that each of the 36 plants has an estimated street value of $1,000.

Goodrich was arrested without incident, according to police.
