Howard M. Britto, 75, husband of the late Carol (Dunn) Britto of Sandy Hook, died January 6 in the Danbury Health Care Center.
He was born in Danbury on June 3, 1929, the son of the late Howard and Catherine (Dargan) Britto. He was raised and educated in Redding and lived on the grounds of Putnam Park when his father was the caretaker there. He was a graduate of Danbury High School.
Howard served in the US Army in Germany from 1948 to 1952. A resident of Newtown since 1967, he was an employee of the former Fabric Fire Hose Company until its closing and then was employed in the Maintenance Department of Fairfield Hills Hospital.
In his younger days, Howard was a stock car driver at the Danbury Racearena. He was a Harley Davidson Motorcycle enthusiast.
He is survived by four sons, Wayne Britto and George Britto, both of Sandy Hook, Brian Britto of Southbury, and James Britto of Henderson, Nev.; a daughter, Sharon Doherty of Sandy Hook; a brother, Edward Britto of Bethel; two sisters, Mary Ann Beers of Bethel and Lois Brock of Granite Quarry, N.C.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Viola Fortin of Newtown.
He was predeceased by a sister, June Bonner.
Funeral services were held January 12. Interment was at St Maryâs Cemetery, Bethel.
