Chocolat: An Evening Of Elegant

Chocolate Cuisine, Music And Wine

WOODBURY — New Morning Store and Country Loft Antiques are teaming up to present “Chocolat: An Evening of Elegant Chocolate Cuisine, Music and Wine.” Proceeds from the sale of tickets to the dinner event will benefit The Audubon Center at Bent of the River in Southbury.

The Second Annual Chocolate Dinner will be Saturday, February 26. It will run from 6:30 until 9:30 pm at Country Loft Antiques, 557 Main Street South (Route 6).

The dinner will be presented the second annual chocolate culinary event in its shop, set against a romantic backdrop of 17th to 19th Century French country antiques.

Diners will enjoy a meal prepared by Carol Byer Alcorace, the executive chef of New Morning Store – with each course featuring chocolate within its ingredients, and concluding with her signature “to die for” chocolate truffles. There will be strolling musicians to provide entertainment, and naturopathic physician Eugene Zampieron, ND, will speak on chocolate health and nutrition.

Tickets for the event are $45 per person.

New Morning’s first Chocolate Dinner, held in February 2004 at Old Town Hall, netted sweet results. The evening was sold out, included a lecture on “the true history of chocolate” Mayan expert Michael Coe, PhD, a second talk about the health benefits of chocolate by Philip Cohen, and resulted in a donation of $1,677.50 for Bent of the River.

Guests feasted on an original and naturally delicious chocolate meal cooked up by Ms Byer Alcorace. The five-course buffet featured a varied spicy and sweet display of chocolate enhanced edibles, dark chocolate beet pops, cocoa black bean soup, and chicken mole, ending with chocolate dipped apricots, chocolate-chocolate scones and vegan chocolate truffles.
