Childbirth Education Classes Begin Jan. 25

DANBURY — On Tuesday, January 25, Danbury Hospital’s Department of Pediatrics and Family Birth Center begins its second series of “Programs for Parents” childbirth education classes for new and expectant parents.

Programs for Parents is a five-week series of six classes that covers: “Preparing for Childbirth,” “Baby Care Basics,” “Safe & Sound” child safety program in collaboration with Fairfield County Safe Kids Coalition, and “Boot Camp for New Dads,” a session especially for fathers. Classes meet Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at 235 Main Street. The “Boot Camp for New Dads” session meets on a Saturday morning. Fee for this series is $150.

Programs for Parents also offers optional courses outside of the series, which include breastfeeding, infant CPR, infant massage, and sibling preparation. The sibling preparation class helps children ages 3 to 8 years old prepare for the birth of a brother or a sister by fostering positive feelings and developing realistic expectations. Fee for each individual class is $35.

The Center for Breastfeeding staff also invites new mothers to attend the free support group, “Mother/Baby Talk.” The group meets weekly at 235 Main Street.

 Mothers of babies newborn to 5 months meet Tuesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. Mothers of babies 6 to 12 months meet Mondays from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. Group members share questions and concerns about breastfeeding, infant care, depression, and any other postpartum issues that arise during the unpredictable weeks and months following birth.
