Take a trip –

Late Nite Catechism 2: On March 13, take a ride to City Stage in Springfield, Massachusetts to see the comedy Late Nite Catechism 2. Tickets are $55. Departure from the Newtown Middle School will be at 10:15 am, giving participants time to show at the Holyoke Mall.

Macy’s 31st Flower Show: On Monday, March 21, visit the annual Macy’s Flower Show at Herald Square in New York. There will be a guided tour and free time to shop the story with special discount coupons. Lunch at DaRosina’s Restaurant on Restaurant Row is included. Cost is $58, but there are only 25 seats available.

West Point Dress Parade: On Saturday, April 16, go watch the cadets march in full uniform, in cadence with military music, presenting arms in unison. Cost is $57.

New programs –

Offered this winter are Mandarin Chinese lessons for students in first through sixth grade. The emphasis will be on developing basic conversational skills and the joy of learning an exciting language and culture in a fun atmosphere. The fee is $128 for 10 classes.

The Paint, Draw & More program teaches children to draw what they see, to enhance their drawings with their own ideas and concepts and to use different materials in creative ways. The fee is $94 for a six-week session.

With Aikido, a Japanese alternative to today’s martial arts, students learn to defend themselves without exhibiting violent or aggressive behavior. The fee is $190 for 16 classes.

With Lego Fun-Gineering children are provided with hands-on activities to help them understand the basic mechanical properties of how things move and work and with Lego-Robotics Jr., children are presented with a hands-on, minds-on laboratory for experimenting with robots and robotic activities. Lego Fun-Gineering is open to students in grades two through four while Lego Robotics Jr. is open to students in grades five and up.

Fundamentals of Speed and Agility is a program that will help athletes train their bodies to be in the position necessary for maximum speed and change of direction. Fee is $135 for 12 lessons.

With Newtown’s Children’s Music for the Performing Arts, come experience original compositions of children’s music. Join us for enchanting singing classes with lots of fantasy filled with childhood fun. The fee is $160 for five weeks.

Skating School and Learn to Ice Skate is available for tots ages three-and-a-half to six and seven and older, The fee is $138 for eight weeks.

Still room –

There still is room in our other programs such as Youth Floor Hockey, Dance Programs for 3-5 years old and kindergarten through grade, acting fun, Language Lessons, Hip Hop Dance, Karate, Magic Workshops, Judo, Voice Lessons, Golf Lessons, and Baby Sitting classes. Then there are teen and adult programs, offering Pediatric CPR and Adult CPR & AED classes, Karate, Basic Open Water Scuba, Ballroom Dancing, Yoga, Language lessons and Computer classes.

New this winter is Adult Coed Drop-In Soccer; come out and kick it around! All skills are welcome. This is beginning Saturday, January 8, from 7 to 8:30 am at the Newtown Middle School ‘B’ gym. For more information, email Marlena at marlaynas@yahoo.com.
