Cayer Chiropractic is making its move in the Newtown Health & Fitness Club men’s basketball league. The team, made up of several players from last year’s championship squad, has now won four of its last five games to up its record to 5-4. However, it still has a long way to go to catch Newtown Color Center, which has dominated the league at 9-0.

The Color Center held on to its perfect record last week despite a valiant second-half effort by Dan O’Handley of The Inn at Newtown.

The results:

Newtown Color Center 70, The Inn at Newtown 64: Newtown Color Center raised its record to 9-0, but had to hold on late after holding on to a 26-point lead. Chris Nawrocki led the winners with 25 points and Greg Gallagher chipped in with 21. Mark Svanda and Pete Antonopolis each added 12. Dan O’Handley scored 28 of his game-high 38 points in the second half to lead The Inn at Newtown.

Cayer Chiropractic 74, Fireside Inn 53: Mark Chernoff scored 21 points and Steve Bigham hit for 19 to lead Cayer Chiropractic, which had four players score in double figures. Bill Schiebe had 11 points and Bob Martinez added 10. Paul Carpenter followed with nine. Jeff White led Fireside Inn with 21 points, while Dave Waite added 17.

My Place Restaurant defeated Thermatool by forfeit.

The Villa Restaurant 92, Langport Tile 90: Jason Trachter scored 28 points, Dale Cone hit for 25 and Rich Seman added 23 as Villa Restaurant squeaked out a close one to go 6-2. Dave Samoskevich, returning to the lineup after an eight-game layoff, paced Langport Tile with 35 points. Kevin Carolan chipped in with 23.

Newtown Color Center 75, Fireside Inn 45: Greg Gallagher lit it up for 23 points and Chris Nawrocki added 19 as Newtown Color Center raised its record to 8-0. Jeff White led Fireside Inn with 19.

Cayer Chiropractic Center 64, The Inn at Newtown 55: Bob Martinez and Paul Carpenter combined to go 7-for-7 from the foul line in the final 90 seconds to help lift Cayer Chiropractic. Steve Bigham led the winners with 21 points, Mark Chernoff scored 18 and Carpenter lit it up for a career-high 17. Dan O’Handley topped the Inn at Newtown with 25 points.

My Place Restaurant 69, The Villa Restaurant 51: Tom Villa’s 22 points led four players in double figures for My Place Restaurant. Dave Kingsley added 16, Mike Kirk hit for 14 and Matt Gallagher tallied 11. Jason Trachter paced The Villa Restaurant with 24.

Langport Tile 67, Thermatool 61: Dave Samoskevich erupted for 37 points and Erin Chiaro added 24 as Langport Tile won its second game of the year. Gary Doyon scored 31 points in a losing effort.

The Inn at Newtown 75, The Fireside Inn 71: Dan O’Handley scored 32 points and Jerry Reidy hit for 24 to lead The Inn at Newtown. Chris Svensen and Jeff White each scored 24 points to power Fireside Inn.

WOMEN

Newtown Color Center 40, Italian Pavilion 38: Andrea Morris’ basket with 15 seconds to play lifted Newtown Color Center to the win. Morris led the winners with 17 points. Italian Pavilion’s Lisa Pollard led all scorers with 18.

World Wine & Spirits 47, JF Walsh Logging 40: Carol Huizinga scored 16 points, Ruth Rowe connected for 14 and Tracy Pelella had 10 as World Wine & Spirits remained unbeaten. Karen LoBaz scored 20 points for JF Walsh, while Eileen Frateroli chipped in with 10.

World Wine & Spirits 51, Gleason Real Estate 32: Carol Huizinga scored 17 points, Ruth Rowe added 16 and Tracy Pelella chipped in 15 as World Wine & Spirits raised its record to 9-0. Mary Dent scored 16 points in a losing effort.

JF Walsh Logging & Mulching 63, Italian Pavilion 43: Karen LoBaz ripped the nets for 25 points, Justine Kuhlsaat scored 15 and Eileen Frateroli added 14 as JF Walsh rolled. Caroline Ward scored 12 points for the Pavilion, while Lisa Pollard and Sharon McCarthy each added 11.
