This Valentine's Day season Newtown Youth & Family Services (NYFS) is launching Operation Heart to Heart in collaboration with the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Newtown.

Members of the community are encouraged to create valentines to send to local troops overseas and those veterans in the VA Medical Centers.

"Many of our hometown heroes are away from their friends and family for long periods of time and we feel this is a special way to let them know we appreciate their service," said NYFS Executive Director Candice Bohr. "This will allow us to say thank you to those who we can never thank enough for their service and sacrifice.

"We are asking that valentines be no larger than birthday card size," she added.

Valentines can be dropped off at NYFS, 15 Berkshire Road, until Monday, January 30. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 am to 8 pm; and Saturday, 8 am to 1 pm.
