Penelope R. Meek, 77, of Woodbury died peacefully January 10 in her home, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Thomas B. Meek, Jr. 

Born in the Sunset Farms area of West Hartford, Ms Meek enjoyed the country life. She and her family resided in Oxford, Newtown, and Woodbury over the years. She loved animals, and owned horses, goats, dogs, cats, birds, and various other pets. Ms Meekwas happiest when caring for her “critters.”

Always an animal advocate, Ms Meek was active as a 4-H leader and served for many years as an officer of the Spay and Neuter Association of Newtown. She rescued many animals and was often sought for her extensive knowledge of animal care. In addition, she was a wonderful gardener and was famous for her tomato hybrids.

Besides her husband, her two children, Thomas B. Meek III of Cambridge, Mass., and Amy Elizabeth Mayo of Savannah, Ga.; and four grandchildren survive Ms Meek.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, January 17, at 1 pm, at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School Street, Woodbury.
