Sheila Parkington Pinckney
Sheila Parkington Pinckney, 85, of Sandy Hook died January 9 at Masonicare in Newtown. She was the loving wife of Warren J. Pinckney, her husband of 62 years. The daughter of the late Betsy (Ellison) and John Parkington, she was born November 12, 1928, in Cherry Tree, Lancashire, England.
Along with her parents, a sister Marjorie, and brothers Tom and Harry, she immigrated to the United States in the fall of 1929 and settled in the New Canaan area. After graduating from New Canaan High School, she worked as a legal secretary.
The Pinckneys raised their family in Norwalk, Ridgefield, and New Fairfield, before retiring to Cape Cod, Mass., in 1986. In 2004, they moved to Sandy Hook.
Mrs Pinckney was active in church throughout her life, was a Cub Scout den mother, and enjoyed boating, sailing, traveling, and camping.
In addition to her husband, two sons David J. Pinckney, and wife Joyce, of Newtown and Robert W. Pinckney, and wife Barbara, of Franklin, Mass.; and grandchildren Jason, Michael, Jennifer, Leah, and Anna survive Mrs Pinckney.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 pm, Monday, January 13, at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. A funeral service will take place at 10 am, Tuesday, January 14, at the Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook. Burial will follow at the Newtown Village Cemetery.
