Many Helped With The Mitten Tree
Many Helped With The Mitten Tree
To the Editor:
On January 1 the Newtown Police Department successfully completed its 11th annual âMitten Treeâ collection with overwhelming response from so many caring people!
As always, we have come to count on Judith La Branche starting off our collection each year with her handmade items that she ships all the way from Florida! (And this year was no exception!) Gene Gaudiosi and the many members of the Newtown Senior Center were only a few of the many countless individuals that âdecoratedâ our tree this year!
This year we collected hundreds of scarves, mittens, and hats...and then there was the additional surprise of several new winter coats, snowsuits, and fleece blankets! The Newtown Social Service Department has promised to find a good home for all the donated items!
We all remember the snow storm of this past October. Most of us experienced firsthand what it felt like to live without any heat, limited food, and electricity. For most of us this was an inconvenience that would last only a week or two (.... but we all know that it felt like an eternity!)
Most of us are also lucky enough to say that we are now warm and with food and electricity. Let us never forget that October feeling so that we donât ever forget our unknown neighbors in need!
Thank you all again and again. You made a difference!
