Alfred Edwin Arkell

US Navy Veteran Of World War II

Alfred Edwin Arkell, 85, of Homosassa, Fla., and a former resident of Newtown, died January 6, at Hospice House of Citrus County in Lecanto. He was born April 4, 1926, in Portsmouth, N.H., son of Freda M. (Tully) and Charles E. Arkell.

Mr Arkell received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Bridgeport in 1951, and was a World War II Navy veteran. He retired as a Data Control Coordinator for Philips Medical Systems in Shelton.

A member of St Benedict Catholic Church of Crystal River, Mr Arkell celebrated his faith at St Rose Catholic Church in Newtown during his residency here.

In Florida, he belonged to the Citrus Neighborhood Watch, American Legion Post 155, VFW Post 8189, and also enjoyed fishing.

Mr Arkell is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma F. Arkell, of Homosassa; three children, Kenneth, James, and Judith; a brother; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place January 12. Burial was at Florida National Cemetery.
