Ruby Moffett

Nurse’s Aide For 35 Years

Ruby Moffett, 85, of Newtown, formerly of Danbury, died January 7 at Danbury Hospital. On April 17, 1920, life began for Ruby Lee (Shepherd) Moffett in Douglas, Ga., a beloved daughter of Alfred Shepherd and Pennie (Grady) Shepherd.

In 1942, she married Lonnie Moffett and to this union, three children were born: Elonza (Scooter) Moffett, Billy Moffett, and a daughter, Diane (Moffett) Ross.

Mrs Moffett accepted Christ at a young age and was a member at the Mt Pleasant AME Zion Church in Danbury. Her special gift was to help others, which led her to employment at Altnacraig Nursing Home in Ridgefield, where she was a nurse’s aide for 35 years.

Mrs Moffett is survived by her devoted husband, Lonnie Moffett; and son Billy Moffett, both of New Milford; her daughter, Diane Ross of Columbia, S.C.; two daughters-in-law; Vernese Moffett of Hampton, Va., and Kimberly Moffett of New Milford; and a son-in-law, Leroy Ross of Columbia, S.C.; two grandsons, Shawn Moffett and Aaron Edmonds; six granddaughters, Angela Moffett, Erika (Moffett) Brown, Jennifer (Moffett) O’Connell, Dana Moffett, Michelle Huggins, and Lonnidra Sanders; six great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; two sisters-in-law, Lydia Moffett of Broxton, Ga., and Eva Mae Moffett of Milwaukee; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends. A son, Elonza (Scooter) Moffett; her parents; sister, Ludella Smith; and brother Willie Shepherd preceded her in death.

The funeral service was held at Mt Pleasant AME Zion Church, Danbury, January 12. Burial was in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury. Arrangements were by the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division Street, Danbury.
