Newtown Public Schools Calendar

To Remain The Same

Members from the Board of Education took a vote at its January 10 meeting to approve the Newtown Public Schools calendar for the next two years. The calendar will remain the same except for one minor change: rather than having a staff development day on Columbus Day holiday, it will now be set for the Friday immediately prior to spring vacation in April.

For the 2006-07 school year, students will start school before Labor Day, on Tuesday, August 29, and there will continue to be a full February vacation from Monday, February 19, through Friday, February 23.

The projected last day of school will be Monday, June 18. Snow days will be added on to the last day of school in June; there are no built in snow days. If the schools are closed because of weather or another emergency beyond five days, those days will be made up with days taken from the April vacation starting with Monday. Staff development day will be Friday, April 13.

For 2007-08 students will start school on Tuesday, August 28, and schools will be closed February 18–22 for winter vacation.

The last projected day of school will be Tuesday, June 17. Staff development day will be on Friday, April 11.
