Jewelry Dolls At Booth Library
Ivette Worrell began making jewelry dolls in 2003 and has since displayed them in many craft shows. She and husband Dwight reside in Newtown and are heavily involved in crafts which consists of doll models and fine arts.
This month Mrs Worrell is showing a collection of her dolls in the first floor display cases at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street in Newtown.
Mrs Worrell owns and runs a bridal services and fashion jewelry business. Many of her doll designs are derived from the gowns and fashions offered in her business. Each design is a simulation of real world fashions.
The dolls are handmade from many basic fabric types including silk, satin and cotton.
Some of the dolls are mounted on small rosewood jewelry boxes from India. These boxes can be used to store small pieces of jewelry.
Other small wooden boxes are used as mounts for the dolls and can also be used for storage.
The construction of the dolls are a combination of balsam wood and Styrofoam. After the major form is made, the clothing is cut from small patterns and the dolls are dressed. The final design is accented with tiny jewelry parts.
The collection can be viewed any time the library is open â Monday through Thursday from 10 am until 8 pm, Friday between noon and 5 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.
