FAIRFIELD — One of Louisiana’s favorite sons, Terrance Simien, will be on the stage at Fairfield University’s annual Mardi Gras bash, scheduled this year for Saturday, February 5. The party begins at 8 pm in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

Mr Simien and his band will amaze the audience with their “zydeclectic” music, rich color and extraordinary spirit at the truly unique celebration. Zydeco combines the accordion with the compelling heritage of the Creole and French-speaking Louisiana mixture of African, French, Spanish and Indian heritage.

In his act, Mr Simien bounces around the stage like a gleeful, hippie-haired, barefoot teddy bear, his squeezebox dangling off his body. In tune after tune, he undoes the aches and pains of hard lives spent working in the sugarcane fields and crawfish ponds of his native state.

Tickets for the Terrance Simien show are $25. A post-show Mardi Gras party will take place in the Quick Center lobby. For more information call 203/254-4010 or 877/ARTS-396.
