Country Players Announce Music Series

BROOKFIELD — The Country Players of Brookfield have added a series of four concerts to the Brookfield Playhouse’s production schedule for 2000. The musical concert series will feature a variety of professional artists associated with the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.

The series launches on February 5 with The Janet Marlow Jazz Trio, featuring the artistry of Janet Marlow on the ten-string guitar, Alan Brennan on jazz violin and five-string fretless bass, and Kent Hewitt, a world class pianist, on keyboard.

The trio will present an evening of jazz favorites including Gershwin, Porter, Brubeck, Brazilian compositions and original works from Ms Marlow’s latest CDs. Ms Marlow’s mastery of the ten-string guitar earned her appearances at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

At the height of her classical appearances, Ms Marlow moved into the jazz realm with performances at New York’s renowned Blue Note jazz club. She was featured on Entertainment Tonight, and her compositions are sought for scores of television productions and commercials.

Later in the year, Country Players of Brookfield will host performances by Mestizo Manta, featuring music of South America, the Riverboat Ramblers, a seven-piece Dixieland jazz band, and a fourth performer to be announced.

Tickets are $15 for a single performance or $55 for the four-part series. For reservations and concert dates call the Country Players of Brookfield at 775-0023.
