New Year, Old Location For Genealogy Club: Next Meeting Wednesday Night
The Genealogy Club of Newtown will return to C.H. Booth Library for its first meeting of the year, scheduled for Wednesday, January 14.
Many of last year’s club meetings were held in Ridgefield, for a number of reasons, but the club is back at the library, 25 Main Street, again this month. Meetings begin promptly at 7 pm, but the club’s Help Desk opens at 6:45 for those who have a genealogy related problem to discuss.
This month’s speaker will be Marian Wood, a member of the club and a longtime researcher and textbook writer. Ms Wood’s program will be “Using Facebook for Genealogy.”
There are hundreds of active Facebook genealogy groups devoted to specific parts of the US and the world. There are pages for discussion at these sites about specific family groups.
Using Facebook, researchers can connect with relatives, local historians and researchers, and ask questions, get advice, and share information.
Ms Wood blogs about her genealogical research at climbingmyfamilytree.blogspot.com.
Light refreshments will be served following the program.
Reservations are not needed but additional information is available by calling Bea Morgan at 203-304-1861 or 203-770-6237.
