Reallocate Town Hall Funding

For NHS Expansion

To the Editor:

I have yet to meet a citizen of Newtown, of any demographic, who feels that a new town hall should take priority over other pressing projects in Newtown. Many people feel very strongly that a new town hall, at this time, is not a prudent decision for Newtown, and question how this project got so far. The high school expansion (as requested) is an absolute necessity; this need has been validated by the NEASC report and can be seen by merely visiting the school. In addition, this community has recreational needs, for all citizens, that must take priority over a new town hall. A new town hall, at this time, does not address any of these pressing community needs and provides little benefit to anyone. (There are other options if more office space is necessary.)

Legislative Council Members — The funds for the new town hall should be reallocated to pay for the community’s real needs. A more appropriate use of the money would be to assure a proper high school expansion. Please help to avoid it being underfunded, so that we are not building another addition in a few years.

Please pursue reallocating the funds earmarked for a new town hall. This will allow us to fund and move forward with the most important capital projects, in a more timely manner, which will provide the most benefit to our community.

Thank you.
