Adolph H. “Al” Mussgnug, 85, of Danbury, devoted husband of Elizabeth (Wachtel) Mussgnug, died at Danbury Hospital, January 6. He was born in Astoria, N.Y., on June 9, 1921, son of Sigmund and Louise (Svoboda) Mussgnug.

In addition to his beloved wife of 63 years, he is survived by his daughter, Pamela A. Tichon and her husband, Paul, of Newtown; his son, James A. Mussgnug and his wife, Patricia, of Webster, N.Y.; and his four grandchildren, Karl and Erich Mussgnug, and Daniel and Jennifer Tichon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr Mussgnug was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. He fought and was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, three Bronze Battle Stars, The Victory Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater, and American Theater Ribbons.

He was a manufacturing engineer who worked for Bard Parker, Barden Corp, and finally at Heli-Coil, retiring after 30 years.

During the 1950s and 60s, Mr Mussgnug and his wife developed, owned, and operated Hemlock Shores on Lake Candlewood. He was a member of St James Episcopal Church in Danbury for more than 50 years. He was also a lifetime member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

Funeral services were held at the Cornell Memorial Home, Danbury, January 9, with the Reverend Laura Ahern, rector of St James Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial in Great Plain Cemetery followed.
