Slug: Lionel 101 Trolley Hits $23,750 At NETTE

DANBURY, CONN. — On December 4, New England Toy Train Exchange (NETTE) held its final sale of the year, attracting bidders from across the globe. Naomi Karagianes, had her hands full, juggling phone bidders from England, Germany and the Netherlands. With 90-plus attendees, there were also reported mail bidders from Italy, New Zealand and Australia as well as more than 100 absentee and Internet bidders.

The top lot of this $355,000 sale was a 1909 Lionel 101 Summer Trolley that sold for $23,750. Other items of note included a rare Lionel 400E in crackle finish that hammered for $12,600; an early Marklin Ga 2 Freight Station that hit $7,920; an early Marklin Suspension Bridge, incomplete, that went for $9,900 and a Marklin Ga 1 Kaizer Diner, which brought $5,720.

Lionels from the 1950s did well as a 1959 New Haven F3 set hammered for $6,600; a 1958 New Haven Alco went for $3,120 and a mint set of 2245 Texas Special F3s brought $4,800. A Lionel 911 Landscaped Plot hammered for $1,870 and a 1952 Lionel Dealer poster sold to a mail bidder for $4,290.
