Programs For Parents
Change of Dates for Positive Parenting Programs: âPositive Parentingâ (geared for parents of pre-school and elementary students) will now begin on Tuesday, January 25. âWelcome To The Teen Zoneâ (recommended for middle and high school parents) sessions will meet on Wednesday evenings, beginning January 26. Both courses run for five weeks, from 7 to 8:30 pm, and are held in NYSâs Parentsâ Corner. The fee is $25. Also, if you would like to host a 5-week group at your home, a staff member would be happy to arrange this with you. This is a great way for neighbors to get to know one another. To register for these courses please call the office.
Interested in sharing parenting skills with others? NYS is holding a Positive Parenting Training Day on Saturday, January 29, from 9 am to 1 pm. You do not need to have participated in the PP programs in order to attend. This course is free for Newtown residents and $50 for out-of-towners. For further information, please call the office.
Entertainment books are about to become history. There are just 4 books left! If you would like to purchase one, please call the NYS office.

The nursery rhyme âRing Around the Roseyâ is a rhyme about the plague. People infected with the plague would get red circular sores (âRing around the Rosey...â). These sores would smell very bad so people would hide flowers on their bodies in an attempt to mask the smell (âpocket full of posies...â). People who died from the plague would be burned to reduce the spread of the disease (âashes, ashes, we all fall downâ).
