Fay Friedman

Fay Friedman of New City, N.Y., mother of Andrea Leighton of Newtown, died January 8 at the age of 74 at Nyack Hospital.

She was born on January 15, 1925, daughter of Max and Henrietta Picarsky. She was a member of the Jewish Community Center Sisterhood, Hadassah, and was an ombudsman. She married Norman Friedman on November 30, 1946. She was a “shopassaurus” and had many friends.

She is also survived by her husband, Norman, of 53 years; her son Max and daughter-in-law Ellen; son-in-law, Edward Leighton; daughter Fern Newdow and her husband Ben; a brother, Leonard Picard and his wife Francine; grandsons, Gregory, Zachary, Joshua and Jacob and granddaughter Kimberly.

Donations may be made to the Doris Werk Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Jewish Community Center, 246 North Main Street, Spring Valley, NY 10977, or charity of choice.

Services were held on January 10. Shiva will be observed at the Friedmans’ residence, 21 Gerke Avenue, New City, N.Y.

Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, N.Y., was in charge of arrangements.
