A Christmas To Remember

To the Editor:

I am  an employee of the post office for 15 years and a father of two small children. I never imagined that a back injury that occurred at work this summer would leave my family and I in a state of destitution.

As Christmas approached, and all of our bills were severely overdue, my wife and I wondered how we would ever make it through the holidays. After waiting several months for one check (that covered only a portion of what was due to me) from the Department of Labor, we were so far behind that it would hardly put a dent in what we owed our creditors. I was hoping that another check for the six weeks-plus that they owed me would arrive. Much to my despair, no such check ever came.

I am writing this letter to thank all of the wonderful people who found it in their hearts to dig deep in their own pockets to support us in this time of need. First, I would like to thank my co-workers at the Newtown Post Office who gave hard-earned money to a group contribution to my family. What a wonderful gesture! And those individuals who frequented my home with additional support of their own. Secondly, thanks goes out to our friends and neighbors in our extraordinary community. Through their continued concern and financial help, we were able to make it through a very difficult time. We were overwhelmed with your generosity and sense of community love that we experienced.

My wife and I would like to express our deepest and complete appreciation to all of you. Thank you for caring so much and helping make this Christmas the most meaningful and beautiful Christmas ever! God bless you all!
