Celebrate 2019 with Waterbury Symphony Orchestra’s (WSO) “Heroic Music for Brass & Organ.” Two performances are scheduled: Sunday, January 20, at 4 pm, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street in Newtown; and again at St John’s Episcopal, 16 Church Street in Waterbury, on Sunday, January 27, at 4 pm.

The program will showcase the New England premiere of Douglas Hedwig’s A Certain Slant of Light. The concert will additionally explore the power and majesty achieved by a combination of some of the finest brass and percussion instrumentalists from the region.

Maestro Leif Bjaland will lead members of the WSO in ensemble and solo works for brass and organ, with guest organist Matthew Daley. This month’s concerts are being presented as part of the Music in Great Spaces series, featuring works by Clarke, Gigout, Handel, Purcell, and others.

Tickets for either performance of “Heroic Music for Brass & Organ” are $25 in advance or $35 at the door. Tickets for college students are $10, and for children they are $5.

Ticket holders will be invited to a post-performance reception.
