Womanâs Club Introduces
Project RED
A member of the General Federation of Womenâs Clubs, Newtown Womanâs Club GFWC, Inc, has created a community improvement safety project for Newtown residents.
This safety project is known as Project RED (Resident Emergency Data). Â It is a simple project, whereby residents complete an emergency information form, affix a small red transparent sticker to the windshield (upper driverâs side) of their vehicle, place the completed form inside a red envelope and place the red envelope inside their glove compartment.
Information packets have been shared with the fire marshal, police chief, Police Commission, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association, the State Police barracks in Southbury, and all five of Newtownâs fire companies.
Then, should there be an automobile accident, first responders will know to look into the glove compartment for any needed information.
This voluntary program was shared with club members at their recent meeting, many of whom supported this safety project. Carole Mattegat, Womanâs Club member and Police Commission chairman, said, âThis is a really good project, and Iâm glad weâve developed it.â
Project RED chair Jo Ann Bruno said she hopes the grassroots project might spread to other communities. Anyone interested in participating in Project RED envelopes can pick up an envelope at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook.
