Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, William Beatty, 19, of 57 Laurel Trail went to the police station on January 2 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction and with a parking violation. Beatty had received a parking ticket, but did not respond to that violation, according to police.
After he posted $37 bail, police released Beatty for a January 15 court appearance.
Berkshire Road Crash
Police said motorist Ryan Dilworth, 17, of 57 Charter Ridge Road was driving a 2003 Land Rover SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, near Wasserman Way, about 3:40 pm January 2, when he became distracted and then drove into the rear end of an eastbound 1997 Acura Integra coupe that was stopped for traffic conditions. Shamika Cancel, 24, of Bridgeport was driving the Acura, police said.
Ambulance volunteers transported Cancel to Danbury Hospital to be checked for neck and back pain, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident.
Police issued Dilworth an infraction for following too closely, distracted driving, and failure to carry a driverâs license.
DUI Arrest
Police report they saw a motorist driving southward with a broken headlamp near 228 South Main Street about 12:02 am on January 1, so they stopped him to investigate the equipment problem.
An open bottle of alcohol was found inside the vehicle, police said.
Police said they charged the 17-year-old male driver with driving under the influence, possession of alcohol by a minor, and driving with a defective headlamp.
After he posted $100 bail, police released the youth for a January 11 appearance in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. State law conceals the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with such offenses.
House Burglary
Sometime between 9 am on Monday, December 31, and 6 pm on Wednesday, January 2, someone burglarized a home on Elm Drive, police said. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 426-5841 or at 270-8888.
Riverside Road
Police report that they stopped motorist Robert G. Booth, 40, of 52 Lakeview Terrace on Riverside Road on the afternoon of January 3, because the vehicle that he was driving had darkly tinted windows.
After investigating, police lodged six motor vehicle charges against Booth.
Police charged Booth with a window tint violation, driving without automotive insurance, driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered vehicle, misuse of a marker plate, and failure to display a front marker plate.
After posting $100 bail, Booth was released for a January 17 court appearance.
DUI Case
Police said they spotted motorist Jeffrey McGrath, 21, of 152 South Main Street driving northward on South Main Street in the southbound lane, in the vicinity of Simm Lane, about 3:47 am on January 5, so they stopped him to investigate.
Police charged McGrath with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. After posting $100 bail, he was released for a January 22 court appearance.

Big Y Theft
Security staff at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street in the borough reported to police midafternoon on December 31, that two males had left the store without paying for about $20 worth of merchandise. The males were seen entering a vehicle in the parking lot and then driving away. Police are investigating.
Three Vehicles
About 11:48 am January 5, motorist Robert Wilkinson, 33, of Shelton, who was driving a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions, police said.
Northbound motorist Priestly Leng, 22, of Bethel, who was driving a 2000 Honda Accord, then stopped behind the Ford, police said.
Northbound trucker Gilbert Robinson, 37, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2007 Kenworth tractor-trailer truck, then struck the rear end of the Honda, pushing the Honda into the rear end of the Ford, police said.
Ambulance volunteers transported Wilkinson to Danbury Hospital to be checked for pain, police said.
Robinson received an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Pontiac Vs Toyota
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Brushy Hill Road and Platts Hill Road about 6 pm January 5.
The accident involved Quentin Ham, 20, of Birch Rise Drive, who was driving a 1994 Pontiac coupe, and motorist Curt Logan, 51, of Brushy Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 Toyota van, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police issued Ham an infraction ticket for failure to obey a stop sign and for failure to wear a seatbelt.
BMW Collision
About 7:37 pm January 4, Shomora Garcia, 19, of Oxford, who was driving a 1997 BMW 528-i sedan westward on Wasserman Way, near Nunnawauk Road, struck a dead deer that was lying on the pavement, police report. Garcia was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Icy Road
Police report a low-speed accident on Obtuse Road, near its intersection with Currituck Road, about 9:45 pm January 1.
Albert Paparesta, 59, of Brookfield was driving a 2001 Hyundai Sonata sedan southward on Obtuse Road and was negotiating a curve in the road, when the auto began sliding on the icy pavement, went off the road and then traveled down an embankment, hitting a tree stump, police said.
Paparesta was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Hall Lane Break-In
Police report that sometime between 3 pm on Saturday, December 29, and 3 pm on Monday, December 31, someone illegally entered a Hall Lane residence through a kitchen window and then damaged property inside the house. Police are investigating the third-degree burglary and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer John McCluskey at 426-5841.
Found Items
On December 31, a black-and-red cloth case holding some childrenâs DVDs was found on Church Hill Road, near Queen Street. Police are holding the items for safekeeping. The owner may claim the goods by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.
Moving Violations
Police report that they stopped motorist Gregory Goodkowsky, 20, of 47 Turkey Hill Road on Cherry Street at about 2:40 pm January 4 for having traveled fast and littered on nearby Riverside Road.
On investigating, police charged Goodkowsky with traveling too fast for conditions and with driving while under suspension. Police also verbally warned him for littering.
Police released Goodkowsky on $100 bail for a January 18 court appearance on the motor vehicle charges.

Truck Hits Building
Police said that an unoccupied 1991 GMC box truck that was parked in the parking lot for Hot Shots II Grille, Restaurant and Tap Room at 130 Mt Pleasant Road in Hawleyville, at about 5:45 pm on January 8, started to roll downslope and then struck the building and its deck, coming to rest on the deck.
The collision damaged the building, the deck, and an awning, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Commerce Road
After receiving a report of a motor vehicle accident on Commerce Road on the night of January 9, police went there to investigate.
Police said that motorist Kirk Andersen, 24, of 55 Capitol Drive was driving a 1992 Dodge Dynasty southward on Commerce Road, and as he was negotiating a curve in the road, he lost control of the auto, after which it struck a stormwater catch basin, some wooden posts, and a tree, coming to rest off the right side of the road.
Police said that Andersen complained of injuries, after which an ambulance crew went to the scene, but Andersen then refused treatment.
Police said their investigation showed that Andersen had driven the Dodge recklessly in getting into the accident. Andersen interfered with and struggled with police during their accident investigation, police said.
Police then charged him with reckless driving, making a restricted turn, and interfering with police.
Andersen was released from police custody on a written promise to appear in court on January 23.
