String Trio Will Continue
Classical Concert Series
SOUTHBURY â Pomperaug Woods will begin its Classical Concert Series for 2008 with a performance by The Avery Ensembleâs String Trio on Sunday, January 13, at 3 pm, in Wilson Hall.
The concert is free to the public but tickets are required to reserve a seat. Seating is limited.
The program will be J.S. Bachâs Goldberg Variations in an arrangement for string trio.
The members of the string trio are Steve Larson, viola; Annie Trépanier, violin; and Hans Twitchell, cello.
In 1997 Mr Larson he won second prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition, UK, also receiving the special award for his performance of the commissioned work. Since 1994 he has been the violist of the acclaimed Adaskin String Trio, considered by many to be the preeminent ensemble of its kind in the world.
Mr Larson has performed as a guest with numerous chamber groups including the Emerson & Miami String Quartets and the Lions Gate and New World Trios. He is currently on faculty at The Hartt School of the University of Hartford where he is also chair of chamber music.
Ms Trépanier has performed throughout Canada, the United States and Europe, and has been heard regularly in national broadcasts on Radio-Canada, CBC and NPR. A former member of Diabelli String Quartet, she was a finalist for the 2001 Banff International String Quartet Competition
Ms Trépanier was until recently also a member of the New World Trio, which acted as ensemble-in-residence at Connecticutâs Warner Theater during its 2006-07 season. Ms Trépanier studied chamber music with members of the Orion, Emerson and Orford String Quartets.
Dr Twitchell has performed in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Israel, Brazil and Argentina including a collaboration with the Emerson Quartet, performing the Schubert String Quintet. His youthful orchestral adventures include tenures as principal cellist of both Lubbock Symphony Orchestra in Texas and Eastern Connecticut Symphony.
Dr Twitchell currently serves on the faculty of the Community School of the Arts in Mansfield at the University of Connecticut.
