Parent Education

Program (PEP)

The State of Connecticut requires completion of this program as a prerequisite to granting a divorce. Sessions are designed to help families cope with the effects of divorce on children. Call NYFS for info.

Strengthening Families Program (SFP)

Meets from 6 to 8 pm every Wednesday, for ten weeks, beginning January 16. Registration required. SFP is designed to support families as the youth transition into the teen years. There is no cost. Families participate together in activities and games to promote family bonding. Youth will learn how to handle frustration, appreciate parents, resist peer pressure and get along with others. Parents are given parenting skills training and other tips. For more information, contact Amanda at NYFS. A light meal and babysitting are provided.

Blizzard Brigade

This service matches responsible 7th and 8th students with residents who require their walks, steps, and driveways cleared of snow. The effectiveness of the Blizzard Brigade depends on a commitment and a full understanding of what is expected from both the student and employer. Residents should call a NYFS job bank coordinator to identify their needs; students may call for an application. Once the application is reviewed, and references checked, the student will be interviewed.
