Menâs Basketball Standings
The menâs basketball league at Club New-Fit has reached the midway point of its season with a bit of a logjam at the top of the standings.
No one is undefeated, four of the six teams have winning records, and most of the games have been close.
Leading the way is talent-laden My Place Restaurant at 6-1. Last week, My Place won easily, defeating Newtown Mobil, 94-49. Corney Dunn led the way with 22 points, while Pat Sullivan hit for 21 and Dave Samoskevich and Jeff Moxham each added 18. Roger Manning scored 17 points in defeat.
Defending champion Total Pool and Spa is off to a 5-2 start. The pool men cruised at 49-42 win over Svanda Painting last week as Frank Galante and Kevin Barrett each scored 15 points in a low-scoring affair. For Svandaâ Painting, Jeff Haddad led the way with 11 and Matt Miriani and Pete Antonopolis added 8 apiece.
At 5-2, Pantan Landscaping is a force to be reckoned with. This week, however, it suffered a bit of an upset in losing a nail biter to Newtown Phone Book, 57-56. The win raised the Phone Bookâs record to 4-3. Steve Bigham led the winners with 19 points, while Steve Nowacki added 16 points and 14 rebounds. Rob Merryfield added 12 in the win. For Pantan, Mike Fern scored 16 points, Russell Stusky tossed in 14 and Tim Byrne added 11.
