Generous Man
John Bennett Gallagher, 67, of Newtown, died unexpectedly on January 3.
Born and raised in Bethel, he later resided in the Sandy Hook section of Newtown, where he and his wife Marsha raised two sons, John Paul and Gregory. He received a business degree from Michigan State University, later to become a sales manager for the old Finast Stores grocery chain, and then ultimately a general manager and partner of the Liquor Depot outlets in New Britain and Simsbury.
Along with his wife and sons, he is survived by his mother, Barbara; brothers, Kevin and his wife, Joanne, Patrick and his wife, Frances, and Richard Gallagher; an uncle and aunt, Harry and Emma Colley; an aunt, Betty Gallaher; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. His father, John T. Gallagher, and two brothers, Mark and Paul, predeceased him.
John was a dedicated family man and loved nothing better than having his family and friends for gatherings at his home on Lake Zoar. He was an avid photographer, lover of parades, and an inveterate New York sports fan. In short, he was a kind and generous person who will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated January 8at St Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in the spring in the Newtown Village Cemetery.
