Trucks Steered Away From Some Local Roads

“No Thru Truck” signs have been put up along several local roads now that the state’s Department of Transportation (DOT) has approved the town’s request to minimize local truck traffic.

The DOT responded to a request from the town’s Police Commission, the designated local traffic authority.

Truck traffic is now prohibited on Hattertown Road, Key Rock Road, Queen Street to Mile Hill Road, Toddy Hill Road and Botsford Hill Road. Currituck Road and Schoolhouse Hill Road were previously approved.

Butterfield Road, Mile Hill Road South, Nunnawauk Road and Zoar Road were not approved. Those roads will be considered for “No Thru Truck” status by the ordinance committee of the Legislative Council. Ordinance Committee Chairman Will Rodgers said the state only approves those roads with inter-town traffic. It leaves roads with strictly local traffic for consideration under town ordinances.
