Supporting Cancer Research

To the Editor,

This is a special note to thank the community of Newtown, the staff and vendors of the Newtown Stop & Shop, and the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company for raising a record $1,687,701.50 for the Jimmy Fund through the ninth annual Stop & Shop/Boston Red Sox Triple Winner Program.

These funds support important cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and provide funding for the nationally recognized Stop & Shop Family Pediatric Brain Tumor Clinic, located in the Jimmy Fund Clinic. As we approach a greater understanding of cancer and its causes, this kind of private support aids dramatically in the efforts to find a cure for this dreaded disease.

With the completion of this year’s Triple Winner Program, the total amount raised for the Jimmy Fund since 1990 by Stop & Shop has exceeded $10 million. We encourage Stop & Shop customers to join us in recognizing the support of the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company and thanking them for contributing so generously to the search for a cure for cancer.

Sincerely,

Mike Andrews

Chairman, The Jimmy Fund
