Robert G. Denzel, Jr
Robert G. Denzel, Jr, of Newtown, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 5, after a short illness, surrounded by his family.
Husband of the late Blanche (Seda) Denzel, he was born May 7, 1935, in Bridgeport to the late Robert G. Denzel, Sr, and Florence (Moser) Denzel. Bob was a well-known builder in the Newtown area, as well as an avid fisherman and traveler of the world. He enjoyed sharing his many talents on numerous mission trips with the “tent makers'' from Walnut Hill Community Church, where he was an active member.
Known as the “lollipop man,” the children at church would seek him out each week for one of his lollipops that he always had plenty of. Bob was an usher for more years than anyone can remember. He loved the Lord and served him faithfully.
His love for family was without a doubt unfailing. His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. For him, family was everything.
Robert is survived by his children, Robert III, Laura, Dolores (Tom) Schofield, Paul, Shelley (Ed) Hogenauer, and Sharon Carroll. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. His sister, Edna Constand (Tony), will forever miss her big brother “Bob.” He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours are Tuesday, January 10, from 4 to 7 pm at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
Burial will be at Newtown Village Cemetery at 10 am on Wednesday with a Celebration of Life at Walnut Hill CC at 11 am.
