Snapshot: Dr Meri Rosco
Occupation: I’m an evidence-based chiropractor specializing in nutrition, sports medicine, and muscular anomalies. I even treat cellulite. Everything I do, there’s research to back it up. What I do is massage, a lot of muscle lengthening, and tension reducing techniques, rather than adjustments. My office is in the old Victorian house on the corner of The Boulevard. I work part-time at Extreme Fitness Martial Arts in Plaza South, too.
Family: I’m engaged to Stuart Hall. He proposed to me in July, during his marital arts test. He has three children, Nic, Brendan, and Emma, and we all live together.
Pets: We have a lab/hound mix rescue dog named Dora. She just got her Good Citizen certificate. She’s amazing.
How long have you lived in Newtown? I started working here in 2011, when I was with Extreme Fitness Martial Arts. I loved Newtown so much, I moved here in 2012.
What do you like to do in your free time? Anything outdoors. I like boating and camping. I ski in winter, and there’s a Frisbee game I’m addicted to, called Can Jam! I love to write, mostly journaling, these days, and I do read. A lot of what I read tends to be work related. I work out a lot, too. I run, lift weights, and I do kickboxing.
Do you have a favorite book? My favorite book is True Love: A Practice For Opening the Heart by Thich Nhat Hanh. It’s about learning how to open up yourself, and really be there for others. It’s helped me to be a better partner, a better friend, and a better person.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? Anywhere by the ocean. I do go to North Carolina a lot, though, where I have good friends.
What is the best thing about Newtown? The people. I’ve worked over the years at several martial arts schools, but I couldn’t believe the difference in people in this community, when we opened the martial arts studio here. People are so supportive, and not so competitive. People are into team work, and so genuine. It’s created quite a “family” at the studio.
Who has been the greatest influence in your life? My parents. My mom is extremely thoughtful, and my dad is extremely generous. Together, they try to help others out however they can. They’ve supported my decisions, from changing my career to moving to Newtown. They support me, no matter what.
Do you have a personal philosophy? I try to follow the four agreements of the Toltec Wisdom. First, be impeccable with your word. Second, don’t take anything personally. Third, don’t make assumptions and fourth, always do your best.
Do you have a guilty pleasure? It’s a little odd, but I’d have to say, it’s joking with people. But if they don’t know I’m joking and take me seriously, I feel very guilty. But I keep trying.
