WOODSTOCK, CONN. — An absentee auction featuring more than 100 hand selected bottles, flasks, fruit jars and blown and pattern molded glass will close for bidding on February 9 at Norman Heckler’s. Preview for the sale is open by appointment through February 7.

The sale features a good selection of rare glass and several one-of-a-kind items, with each of the lots having been selected by Heckler due to color, desirability and form. Highlights from the auction include a Harvey’s Prairie Bitters figural in a shaded golden yellow with an olive tone that carries a presale estimate of $20/40,000. This rare bottle is widely considered amongst serious collectors to be one of the ten most popular bitters bottles.

Another lot that is sure to be sought after comes from amongst a large grouping of fruit jars. The Mason’s, in a light golden amber, is the only known amber example in the half-gallon size, according to auctioneer Norman Heckler. Spirited bidding is expected for this coveted lot with the presale estimates topping out at $7,000. Other fruit jars include a lot of three graduated Trademark/Lightning jars in a light yellow amber running from half-gallon to pint size. A pint Ne Plus Ultra Air Tight jar in aqua is also on the block with a presale estimate of $3/6,000.

Among the offerings of historical flasks is a Cannon — “A Little More Grape Capt Bragg” in a fiery strawberry apricot that carries a presale estimate of $3,5/7,000, while another Capt Braggs in yellowish green is estimated at $500/1,000. Also included is a wonderful selection of scroll flasks with a light cobalt blue example expected to sell at $1/2 ,000, a dark blue example $500/1,000, and a golden amber example also at $500/1,000.

Bottles include a Wilbur’s Ink master in a dense amber at $350/700, a Vermont Iodine Springs water bottle $800/1,600, and a Dr Corbett’s Shaker Bitters at $3/6,000.

Other lots of interest include a 9-inch pillar molded sugar bowl that is estimated at $1,250/2,500, a Pitkin type flask that is ribbed and swirled in amber $750/1,500, and an Imperial figural wine bottle with embossed grapes at $2,5/5,000.

A blown three-mold bar bottle from the Kent Glassworks that measures 87/8  inches, will also be sold. The ex George S. McKearin collection bottle is estimated at $2/4,000.

Bids may be executed via the Internet, mail or by telephone. Phone bids will be accepted daily from 9 am to 5 pm till February 8. On the closing day, February 9, bids will be accepted until 10 pm. Contact Heckler’s at 860-974-1634 or www.hecklerauction.com.
