E-Commerce Course
WATERBURY â The division of Accelerated Degree Programs at Teikyo Post University will offer a course on âMarketing on the Internetâ on alternating Friday evenings from January 14 to April 21, from 5:30 to 9:45 pm. âThis course, â explains Judith Slisz, dean of the Division of Accelerated Degree Programs, âis in response to the burgeoning interest in âe-commerce.â [There is] lots of interest and very few courses and programs available. We like to be âcutting-edgeâ so we are presenting this course at a time of high demand.â
Adjunct instructor Cynthia Gallatin, who has taught for Teikyo Post University over the last five years, was very eager when Ms Slisz invited her to develop the course. Ms Gallatin has been implementing Internet research into her marketing courses over the last couple of years. âThis course,â explains Ms Gallatin, âwill examine the impact of the Internet on traditional methods of marketing. We will explore existing and future uses, including benefits and drawbacks such as we have seen in this past holiday shopping season.
âMany online businesses reported an increase in Internet sales, but we also have heard of a slew of returns after the holidays as well. Businesses report an increase in the number of requests for catalogs which is driving up the cost of doing business. However, there are lots of new developments like the depth of information available on the Internet that businesses can tap into about their industry, customers, competitors, etc. that is unprecedented.â
âStudents will spend some class time using computers,â said Ms Slisz, âsome time in group discussion and presentation of their research using Powerpoint presentation software. They will also each develop a simple Web page in the latter part of the course. We will have a team of colleagues including Joseph Pensa, our TPU Online Coordinator, contributing to make this course a very rich experience for all participants.â
