Programs On Heart Health

WATERBURY — Waterbury Hospital’s Evergreen Club 50 is offering a series of free programs on heart health.  High blood pressure, high cholesterol and smoking all contribute to cardiovascular disease, which is the number one killer of American men and women.  Cardiovascular disease claims more lives than all cancers combined.  To register for one, or all, of the programs, please call 573-7385.

The series includes:

“The Lowdown on High Blood Pressure” — Akua Sam, MD, will discuss the causes of high blood pressure, the symptoms and the diagnostic process.  She will also recommend preventive measures and discuss various management and treatment options.  The program is from 2 to 4 pm, January 25 in Waterbury Hospital’s Medical Staff Conference Room.

“The ABCs of Cholesterol” — Almost everyone worries about their cholesterol, but many find it difficult to control.  Malini Sharma, MD will discuss healthy cholesterol and triglyceride levels, why people get high cholesterol and various ways in which they can lower it.  The program is from 2 to 4 pm February 8 in  Waterbury Hospital’s Bizzozero Conference Room.

“Congestive Heart Failure” — Cardiologist Paul Kelly, MD, will discuss this condition, which effects almost five million Americans.  Find out the basics of heart failure, its symptoms and what you can do about it.  The program will also include recommendations for those living with congestive heart failure.  The program is from 2 to 4 pm February 16  in the Bizzozero Conference Room at Waterbury Hospital.
