Mathew J. Grande

US Navy Veteran

Mathew J. (Matty) Grande, 82, of Stamford, died New Year’s Day. He was born in Stamford, September 23, 1926, to Philomena “Mamie” (Loglisci) and Gaetano “Tommy” Grande.

 Survivors include his sister, Catherine DiMarino of Newtown.

He was a lifelong Stamford resident and worked for the same company for 70 years. He was an auto mechanic for Toyota of Stamford and after “retirement,” continued to work in the office and drive the Toyota Courtesy Shuttle. He was a member of the Gravinese Mutual Aid Society of Stamford and a communicant of St. Bridget’s Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served in World War II and was a special police officer for the City of Stamford.

A funeral was held January 5.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford CT 06492-1822; or a charity of one’s choice.
