Former Resident Earns Eagle Award

Former Newtown resident Mark T. Stahl, son of Dr H. Philip and Karen A. Stahl, recently earned a Boy Scouts of America Eagle Award.

The 16-year-old earned his Arrow of Light while a member of Cub Scout Pack 470 at Head O’ Meadow and later served as a scout in Troop 270 at the Dodgingtown Firehouse before moving with his family to Huntsville, Ala. He is now a member of Troop 304.

For his Eagle project, Mark solicited material donations and supervised the construction of a handicap access ramp for the Huntsville First United Methodist Church New Song Sanctuary. The ramp design was inspired by a similar ramp used at the Newtown United Methodist Church.

At Mark’s Eagle ceremony, Daniel Coberly, Creek District Chair and National Boy Scouts of America representative, awarded Mark a Creek District Outstanding Service Award in recognition of his Eagle project.

Mark’s Eagle was presented to him by his brother, H. Michael Stahl, whose Eagle Ceremony was held at the Newtown United Methodist Church in 2000.

In addition to his Eagle Award, Mark currently has 41 merit badges qualifying him for four Palms. Mark is also a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow and has served Troop 304 as a Senior Patrol Guide. In 2002 and 2003, Mark worked on staff at Camp Firelands in Wakeman, Ohio, and plans to attend Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M., in July.
