Charter Cable Launches
Digital Video Recording (DVR)
On Monday January 5, Charter Communication launched a new video recording service, Charter Digital Video Recording (DVR).
Subscribers with Charter Digital Cable who sign up for Charter DVR will be able to view a program while recording a different program. They also will be able to record two different channels simultaneously while also viewing a previously recorded program. The new system also allows subscribers to stop, rewind, fast forward, and pause live television.
Charter DVR also allows subscribers to record recurring shows, so an entire season of favorite programs can be saved even if the customers are away from their television sets.
The cost of this additional service is $9.99 per month.
No extra phone lines or network components are needed to connect to Charter DVR. Customers will receive all their digital programming, Video on Demand services, and iTV channels, according to John Dee, general manager for Charter in Connecticut.
âCharter DVR is the next step in the evolution of television,â he said. âIt puts the customer in complete control over live TV. Once our customers experience DVR, it will change the way they view television forever.â
Equipped with a storage hard drive, Charter DVR is an upgraded digital set-box that fully integrates all the digital recording hardware and software technology with that of its set-top predecessors. Up to 50 hours of programs can be stored and played back at any time. Using the PIP (picture in picture) function, customers can view two live programs, or one live and one recorded program simultaneously. Even when the DVR is turned off, all scheduled recording will be performed automatically and parental controls remain intact.
